Island Hood Installation — What to Know Before You Buy
Island range hood installations are among the more complex kitchen ventilation projects. Here's what your contractor will need to plan for:

Ceiling Structural Support
Island hoods hang from ceiling joists or blocking. Your contractor must confirm the ceiling structure can support the hood's weight at the island's position, and install appropriate blocking if needed before the hood arrives.

Ceiling Ductwork Penetration
A duct penetration through the ceiling must be cut and lined before the hood is installed. The duct runs upward through the duct cover into the ceiling cavity and out to the exterior or attic — pre-plan your routing before installation day.

Dedicated Electrical Circuit
A 115V dedicated circuit roughed in above the island ceiling location is required. This must be completed by a licensed electrician before the hood is hung — the junction box needs to be at the ceiling, not at the wall.

Duct Cover — Order Separately
Measure your ceiling height and order the correct matching Vent-A-Hood duct cover before installation. Standard covers fit 8', 9', and 10' ceilings. Custom sizes are available for non-standard heights. Contact us and we'll help you specify the right cover.

Mounting Height
Mount the bottom of the canopy 30 inches above the cooking surface. Confirm this height works with your ceiling height and duct cover selection before finalizing the installation plan.
