Vent-A-Hood 48-Inch 1100 CFM Designer Series Island Range Hood - Stainless Steel - JDIH448/C3
Vent-A-Hood 48-Inch 1100 CFM Designer Series Island Range Hood — Stainless Steel — JDIH448/C3
|
The Vent-A-Hood JDIH448/C3 is a 48-inch island-mounted range hood from the Premier Magic Lung® Designer Series — the clean-line minimalist of the JDIH family. Where the JDIH/C1 and JDIH/C2 pair a concave body with tapered clipped corners and an offset lip, the C3 takes a different design direction: concave body with a linear lip. The bottom edge of the C3 runs parallel and straight — no asymmetric offset, no corner chamfers — letting the inward curve of the concave body speak for itself without ornamental interruption. The result is the most architecturally pure expression of the JDIH concave form: a hood that is unmistakably premium but deliberately restrained, designed for kitchens where clean geometry and material quality are the design language. Quad Magic Lung® blowers deliver 1100 CFM of airflow — equivalent to 1800 CFM from conventional systems — with 99% centrifugal grease capture and SensaSource® automatic heat detection. Available in stainless steel, painted, polished brass, polished copper, hammered copper, antiqued copper, and antiqued hammered copper. Island duct cover sold separately for 8', 9', and 10' ceiling heights. Recommended mounting height: 30 inches above the cooking surface. Made in the USA since 1933. |
48-Inch CFM Options: The 48-inch JDIH/C3 Designer Island is available in two power configurations. JDIH28/C3 uses dual Magic Lung® blowers for 550 CFM (900 CFM equivalent) — ideal for standard residential cooking. JDIH48/C3 uses quad blowers for 1,100 CFM (1,800 CFM equivalent) — designed for high-BTU or commercial-type cooking equipment. This listing is the 1100 CFM Quad-Blower configuration.

The C3 Design — Concave Body, Linear Lip
The JDIH/C3 is defined by what it doesn't have as much as what it does. There are no tapered clipped corners, no offset lip — just the inward-curving concave form of the JDIH canopy body, terminated by a clean, straight linear lip that runs parallel to the ceiling. This restraint is deliberate. The C3 is the Designer Series option for architects and designers who work in the language of minimalism: quality expressed through form alone, without applied ornament.
Concave Body
Inward-Curving Canopy — The Form Speaks Alone
The concave body of the C3 curves inward — creating the same crown-like recess above the island as the C1 and C2, with the same light-pooling effect at the center in metal finishes. On the C3, the concave form is presented without corner chamfers or lip asymmetry to compete with it. From every angle, the eye goes directly to the curve — to the quality of the geometry itself — rather than to edge detail or corner treatment.
Linear Lip
Straight Bottom Edge — Parallel to the Ceiling
The linear lip runs straight and level — parallel to the ceiling, consistent all the way around the perimeter. There is no offset, no asymmetry, no taper. In a room with strong horizontal lines — flat-panel cabinetry, long countertops, horizontal tile or stone banding — the linear lip creates a natural continuation of the kitchen's geometry. The hood sits cleanly in the space rather than introducing a competing design gesture at its bottom edge.
Finish & Material
7 Finishes — Minimal Form, Maximum Material Impact
The C3's clean geometry makes finish selection especially impactful. Without corner detail or lip asymmetry to carry visual interest, the material surface carries the work entirely. Stainless steel on the C3 is clean and architectural. Polished copper is stunning — the concave surface pools and reflects light in the center, and the linear lip gives a crisp, unfussy boundary to the form. Antiqued and hammered finishes add tactile depth to a shape that is otherwise refined and controlled.
JDIH/C3 vs JDIH/C1 & C2 — Choosing Between Ornamental and Minimal
JDIH/C1 and JDIH/C2
Concave + Tapered Clipped Corners + Offset Lip — Detailed & Jeweled
The C1 and C2 add tapered clipped corner geometry and an asymmetric offset lip to the concave body — creating a more ornamentally complex form with faceted precision at every edge. Best suited to kitchens with traditional, transitional, or designer-eclectic aesthetics where refined detail is valued. Same pricing as the C3.
JDIH/C3 (This Model)
Concave + Linear Lip — Architecturally Pure Minimalism
The C3 strips the canopy to its essential form — the concave curve — and finishes it with a level, parallel linear lip. No corner chamfers, no offset. Best suited to contemporary, modern, and minimalist kitchens where clean geometry and material surface are the primary design tools. Same pricing as the C1 and C2. The choice between them is purely aesthetic.
What's Included — and What You'll Need to Complete the Installation
Included in the Box
Complete Island Canopy Package
Designer Series C3 concave stainless steel canopy with linear lip, quad Magic Lung® blower system, LED lighting, SensaSource® heat sensor, 2-speed rocker controls, and ceiling suspension hardware for island mounting.
Sold Separately — Required
Island Duct Cover (Not Included)
A matching Designer Series island duct cover is required to conceal the duct run to the ceiling. Standard sizes for 8', 9', and 10' ceiling heights; custom sizes available. Duct cover finish must match the hood — contact us to specify both before ordering.
Installer / Contractor Responsibility
Ductwork & Electrical — Not Included
Island installation requires ceiling-routed ductwork and a dedicated 115V circuit by a licensed contractor. At 1,100 CFM, confirm minimum 8" round duct or equivalent with your installer. Outdoor patio installations require a GFCI-protected circuit.
Key Features & Owner Benefits:
- Concave Body with Linear Lip — Architecturally Pure JDIH/C3: The most minimalist expression of the JDIH concave canopy. The inward-curving concave form creates the crown-like effect above the island that defines all JDIH hoods; the linear lip finishes it with a straight, level bottom edge that runs parallel to the ceiling. No tapered clipped corners, no offset asymmetry — the geometry is allowed to speak without ornament. Ideal for contemporary and minimalist kitchens where clean form and material quality are the primary design language.
- Quad Magic Lung® Blower System — 1100 CFM: 4 independent 275 CFM Magic Lung® centrifugal blowers combine for 1100 CFM total — equivalent to 1800 CFM from conventional systems. No mesh filters — 99% grease capture through centrifugal extraction. Snap-apart E-Z Clean housing opens by hand in seconds — dishwasher-safe, no tools required.
- Seven Finishes — Where Minimal Form Meets Maximum Material: Stainless steel, painted (standard or custom), polished brass, polished copper, hammered copper, antiqued copper, and antiqued hammered copper. On the C3's clean geometry, finish selection is especially consequential — the material surface carries all the visual interest. Polished and antiqued copper are particularly striking on the concave form. Contact us to discuss finish options and lead times.
- SensaSource® Automatic Speed Control: Integrated heat sensor automatically returns the blower to high speed when cooking heat rises — maintaining grease capture and fire safety throughout the session without manual adjustments.
- Island Ceiling Mount — 48-Inch Coverage: Ceiling-suspended, no wall attachment. The 48-inch canopy provides full coverage over a 48-inch island cooktop or grill. Requires ceiling structural support and pre-routed ductwork before installation.
- Outdoor Approved — GFCI Required: UL listed for damp location use. Approved for covered outdoor patio installation when connected to a GFCI-protected circuit.
