Vent-A-Hood 54-Inch 1100 CFM Designer Series Island Range Hood - Stainless Steel - JDIH454/C1
Vent-A-Hood 54-Inch 1100 CFM Designer Series Island Range Hood — Stainless Steel — JDIH454/C1
|
The Vent-A-Hood JDIH454/C1 is a 54-inch island-mounted range hood from the Premier Magic Lung® Designer Series — Vent-A-Hood's most premium island collection. The JDIH/C1 features a concave body with tapered clipped corners and an offset lip — a form where the canopy curves inward rather than outward, creating a graceful, inward-flowing silhouette with precisely chamfered and tapered corners and a deliberately asymmetric bottom edge. Where the JCIH/C1 bows outward for bold volumetric presence, the JDIH/C1 draws inward — creating a crown-like crown effect above the island that feels refined and architectural rather than assertive. Quad Magic Lung® blowers deliver 1100 CFM of airflow — equivalent to 1800 CFM from conventional systems — with 99% centrifugal grease capture and SensaSource® automatic heat detection. Available in stainless steel, painted, polished brass, polished copper, hammered copper, antiqued copper, and antiqued hammered copper. Island duct cover sold separately for 8', 9', and 10' ceiling heights. Recommended mounting height: 30 inches above the cooking surface. Made in the USA since 1933. |
54-Inch CFM Options: The 54-inch JDIH/C1 Designer Island is available in two power configurations. JDIH24/C1 uses dual Magic Lung® blowers for 550 CFM (900 CFM equivalent) — ideal for standard residential cooking. JDIH44/C1 uses quad blowers for 1,100 CFM (1,800 CFM equivalent) — designed for high-BTU or commercial-type cooking equipment. This listing is the 1100 CFM Quad-Blower configuration.

The JDIH/C1 Design — Concave Body, Tapered Clipped Corners, Offset Lip
The JDIH/C1 is the counterpart to the JCIH/C1 in Vent-A-Hood's Designer Series — sharing the same tapered clipped corner geometry and offset lip detail, but with an inward-curving concave body rather than an outward-bowing convex one. The result is a hood with an entirely different visual character: where the convex JCIH/C1 pushes presence into the room, the concave JDIH/C1 recedes elegantly — drawing the eye inward to the canopy and creating a crown-like effect above the island that feels architecturally refined and understated in its confidence.
Concave Body
Inward-Curving Canopy — Elegant Depth & Crown Effect
The body of the JDIH/C1 curves inward — concave — meaning the face of the canopy recedes from the room rather than projecting toward it. This creates a fundamentally different spatial relationship between the hood and the kitchen below. From the side, the concave silhouette is graceful and flowing. From below, the inward curve creates a domed recess — a ceiling-within-a-ceiling effect that frames the cooking surface beneath it. In metal finishes, the concave body catches and reflects light in a way that a convex or flat surface cannot — pooling light in the center, shadowing at the edges, creating a sense of depth and movement.
Tapered Clipped Corners
Chamfered & Tapered — Precise Faceted Geometry
Shared with the JCIH/C1, the tapered clipped corner treatment brings faceted precision to the JDIH/C1's edges. Each corner is diagonally cut and then tapered as it moves toward the bottom lip — eliminating blunt corners and creating a carefully crafted transition from face to face. On the concave body, this corner geometry is even more evident — the tapered clips create visible edges that intersect with the inward curve, producing a canopy that reads as genuinely handmade and precisely finished.
Offset Lip
Asymmetric Bottom Edge — Deliberate Design Tension
The offset lip terminates the concave body at a non-parallel angle to the ceiling — adding intentional asymmetry to the bottom perimeter. On the JDIH/C1, this offset creates a subtle visual tension between the inward pull of the concave form and the forward lean implied by the offset edge — a sophisticated design detail that rewards close inspection without demanding attention from across the room.
JDIH/C1 vs JCIH/C1 — Choosing Between Concave and Convex
JDIH/C1 (This Model)
Concave — Inward, Elegant, Crown-Like
The concave body recedes from the room — creating visual depth rather than projecting volume. Best suited to kitchens where the hood should feel integrated and architecturally elegant rather than dominant. Particularly striking in polished copper, polished brass, and antiqued metal finishes where the inward curve pools light in the center and shadows at the edges.
JCIH/C1
Convex — Outward, Bold, Volumetrically Assertive
The convex body bows outward toward the room — occupying visual space assertively and creating a strong sense of mass and presence above the island. Best suited to kitchens where the hood is intended to serve as a primary statement element and bold design centerpiece. Same pricing as the JDIH/C1 — the choice is purely aesthetic.
What's Included — and What You'll Need to Complete the Installation
Included in the Box
Complete Island Canopy Package
Designer Series C1 concave stainless steel canopy, quad Magic Lung® blower system, LED lighting, SensaSource® heat sensor, 2-speed rocker controls, and ceiling suspension hardware for island mounting.
Sold Separately — Required
Island Duct Cover (Not Included)
A matching Designer Series island duct cover is required to conceal the duct run to the ceiling. Standard sizes for 8', 9', and 10' ceiling heights; custom sizes available. Duct cover finish must match the hood finish — contact us to specify both before ordering.
Installer / Contractor Responsibility
Ductwork & Electrical — Not Included
Island installation requires ceiling-routed ductwork and a dedicated 115V circuit by a licensed contractor. At 1,100 CFM, confirm minimum 8" round duct or equivalent with your installer. Outdoor patio installations require a GFCI-protected circuit.
Key Features & Owner Benefits:
- Concave Body with Tapered Clipped Corners and Offset Lip — JDIH/C1 Design: The JDIH/C1's concave canopy curves inward — drawing the eye into the form rather than projecting volume outward. The tapered clipped corners bring faceted precision to every edge; the offset lip adds asymmetric tension at the bottom perimeter. Together these three design elements create a range hood that is simultaneously architecturally complex and visually restrained — confident without being assertive.
- Quad Magic Lung® Blower System — 1100 CFM: 4 independent 275 CFM Magic Lung® centrifugal blowers combine for 1100 CFM total — equivalent to 1800 CFM from conventional systems. No mesh or baffle filters — 99% grease capture through centrifugal extraction. Snap-apart E-Z Clean housing opens by hand for quick, tool-free cleaning.
- Widest Finish Range in the Vent-A-Hood Island Lineup: Seven finishes available — stainless steel, painted (standard or custom colors), polished brass, polished copper, hammered copper, antiqued copper, and antiqued hammered copper. The concave body is exceptional in polished and antiqued metal finishes, where the inward curve pools light at the center of the face and creates shadow depth at the perimeter — producing a light-and-shadow effect that is unique to this canopy geometry. Contact us to inquire about non-stainless finish availability.
- SensaSource® Automatic Speed Control: Integrated heat sensor automatically returns the blower to high speed when rising cooking heat is detected — maintaining grease capture and fire safety throughout the session without manual speed adjustments.
- Island Ceiling Mount — 54-Inch Coverage: Ceiling-suspended island mount — no wall attachment required. The 54-inch canopy provides full coverage over a 54-inch cooktop or island cooking surface. Requires ceiling structural support and pre-routed ductwork before installation.
- Outdoor Approved — GFCI Required: All Vent-A-Hood Magic Lung® products are UL listed for damp location use. Approved for covered outdoor patio installation when connected to a GFCI-protected circuit.
