Vent-A-Hood 54-Inch 550 CFM Designer Series Island Range Hood - Stainless Steel - JCIH254/C1

Vent-A-Hood 54-Inch 550 CFM Designer Series Island Range Hood — Stainless Steel — JCIH254/C1

The Vent-A-Hood JCIH254/C1 is a 54-inch island-mounted range hood from the Premier Magic Lung® Designer Series — Vent-A-Hood's most premium island collection. The C1 features a convex body with tapered clipped corners and an offset lip, Vent-A-Hood's most architecturally refined and structurally complex canopy form. Where the JCIH/A1 uses flowing compound curves, the C1 leads with a bold convex dome shape — a canopy that bows outward toward the room — with precisely chamfered and tapered corner geometry that creates a faceted, jeweler's-quality finish to every edge. Dual Magic Lung® blowers deliver 550 CFM of airflow — equivalent to 900 CFM from conventional systems — with 99% centrifugal grease capture and SensaSource® automatic heat detection. Available in the widest finish range of any Vent-A-Hood island series: stainless steel, painted, polished brass, polished copper, hammered copper, antiqued copper, and antiqued hammered copper. Island duct cover sold separately for 8', 9', and 10' ceiling heights. Recommended mounting height: 30 inches above the cooking surface. Made in the USA since 1933.

54-Inch CFM Options: The 54-inch JCIH/C1 Designer Island is available in two power configurations. JCIH24/C1 uses dual Magic Lung® blowers for 550 CFM (900 CFM equivalent) — ideal for standard residential cooking. JCIH44/C1 uses quad blowers for 1,100 CFM (1,800 CFM equivalent) — designed for high-BTU or commercial-type cooking equipment. This listing is the 550 CFM Dual-Blower configuration.

The C1 Design — Convex Body, Tapered Clipped Corners, Offset Lip

The JCIH/C1 is Vent-A-Hood's most architecturally complex island canopy. Three design elements work together to create a form that is unmistakably premium and unlike anything else in the residential range hood market.

Convex Body

Outward-Bowing Canopy — Bold Volumetric Presence

The body of the C1 canopy bows outward — convex — meaning it expands toward the room rather than sitting flat or tapering inward. This gives the hood a dramatic volumetric presence above the island: a form that occupies visual space confidently, like a piece of furniture or architectural sculpture rather than an appliance. From below, the convex underside creates a domed ceiling element above the cooktop. From the side, the outward curve of the body is the first thing the eye reads — a bold statement that reads distinctly European luxury.

Tapered Clipped Corners

Chamfered & Tapered — Jeweler's Precision at Every Edge

Where most range hoods have rounded or simply squared corners, the C1 uses clipped corners — the corners are cut diagonally rather than rounded or squared — and then tapered, meaning each clipped corner narrows as it moves toward the bottom edge of the canopy. This creates a precise, faceted quality at every corner that is visible from every viewing angle. The tapered clip transforms what could be a simple geometric form into something that has been clearly shaped and refined by hand — the hallmark of Vent-A-Hood's artisan fabrication approach.

Offset Lip

Asymmetric Bottom Edge — Design Tension in the Perimeter

The offset lip on the C1 — like the A1 — gives the bottom perimeter of the hood an intentional asymmetry. The lip does not run parallel to the ceiling; it offsets deliberately, creating a visual tension between the bottom of the convex body and the edge that terminates it. On the C1, where the body is already bold and volumetric, the offset lip adds a finishing complexity that elevates the form from impressive to exceptional.

JCIH/C1 vs JCIH/A1 — Choosing Between the Two Designer Series Styles

JCIH/A1

Two-Part Compound Curve — Flowing & Sinuous

The A1 uses a doubly-curved canopy that flows organically — a softer, more lyrical form that transitions fluidly from one curve to the next. It pairs well with kitchens that feature curved or organic design elements, natural materials, and transitional or traditional aesthetics.

JCIH/C1 (This Model)

Convex + Clipped Corners — Bold & Architecturally Precise

The C1 combines bold outward volume with precise corner geometry — a more dramatic, architectural form. The convex body commands visual space assertively; the tapered clipped corners add precision and faceted detail. Best suited to kitchens with strong geometric elements, high ceilings, and design languages where form is used deliberately and boldly.

What's Included — and What You'll Need to Complete the Installation

Included in the Box

Complete Island Canopy Package

Designer Series C1 stainless steel canopy, dual Magic Lung® blower system, LED lighting, SensaSource® heat sensor, 2-speed rocker controls, and ceiling suspension hardware for island mounting.

Sold Separately — Required

Island Duct Cover (Not Included)

A matching Designer Series island duct cover is required to conceal the duct run to the ceiling. Available in standard sizes for 8', 9', and 10' ceiling heights and in custom sizes. Duct cover finish must match the hood finish — contact us to specify both before ordering.

Installer / Contractor Responsibility

Ductwork & Electrical — Not Included

Island installation requires ceiling-routed ductwork and a dedicated 115V circuit completed by a licensed contractor before installation. Standard 6" round or 3¼" × 10" rectangular ductwork is typical at this CFM level. Outdoor patio installations require a GFCI-protected circuit.

Key Features & Owner Benefits:

  • Convex Body with Tapered Clipped Corners and Offset Lip — C1 Designer Series: Vent-A-Hood's most architecturally assertive island canopy. The convex body bows outward for bold volumetric presence; the tapered clipped corners bring faceted precision to every edge; the offset lip creates intentional asymmetry at the bottom perimeter. Three design elements operating together to create a canopy that is unmistakably designed rather than manufactured.
  • Dual Magic Lung® Blower System — 550 CFM: 2 independent 275 CFM Magic Lung® centrifugal blowers combine for 550 CFM total — equivalent to 900 CFM from conventional systems. Centrifugal extraction captures 99% of cooking grease with no filters. Snap-apart E-Z Clean housing opens by hand — dishwasher-safe, no tools or solvents required.
  • Widest Finish Range in the Vent-A-Hood Island Lineup: Seven finishes — stainless steel, painted (standard or custom), polished brass, polished copper, hammered copper, antiqued copper, and antiqued hammered copper. The convex body and tapered clipped corners are especially dramatic in hammered and antiqued metal finishes, where surface texture and the C1's geometry combine to create a genuinely handcrafted object. Contact us to inquire about non-stainless finish availability and lead times.
  • SensaSource® Automatic Speed Control: Integrated heat sensor automatically returns the blower to high speed when cooking heat is detected — maintaining grease capture and fire safety throughout the session without manual speed adjustments.
  • Island Ceiling Mount — 54-Inch Coverage: Ceiling-suspended, no wall attachment required. The 54-inch canopy provides coverage over a 54-inch cooktop or island cooking surface. Requires ceiling structural support and pre-routed ductwork before installation.
  • Outdoor Approved — GFCI Required: UL listed for damp location use. Approved for covered outdoor patio installation when connected to a GFCI-protected circuit.

Island Hood Installation — What to Know Before You Buy

01

Ceiling Structural Support

Island hoods hang from ceiling joists or blocking. Confirm ceiling structure can support the hood weight above the island location and install blocking before the hood arrives.

02

Ceiling Duct Penetration

A duct penetration through the ceiling must be cut, lined, and routed to the exterior or attic before installation. Pre-plan the full duct path before installation day.

03

Dedicated Electrical Circuit

A 115V dedicated circuit roughed in at the ceiling above the island must be completed by a licensed electrician before installation.

04

Duct Cover & Finish Match — Order Separately

Designer Series duct cover must match the hood finish. Standard sizes fit 8', 9', and 10' ceilings; custom sizes available. Contact us to specify both cover size and finish before ordering.

05

Mounting Height

Bottom of canopy mounts 30 inches above the cooking surface. Confirm this works with your ceiling height and duct cover selection before ordering.
